How should you choose a suit for different body types?

If you were to pick one must-have jacket every spring and autumn, it would definitely be a suit.
The great thing about it is that it looks sharp, can be effortlessly transitioned from a formal to a casual setting, and is always neat in appearance. A properly fitted suit can be the perfect match for a variety of your garments but in order to bring out your best, it is indispensable to select the one that best complements your figure. How then can you decide which suit is right for various body shapes?

1. Petite

For petite people, the main goal is to appear taller and avoid looking shorter. Keep these two points in mind when choosing your outfit.

First, regarding length, there's no need to stick to a fixed measurement - even petite individuals vary in height and build.

Select a shortened suit so that it makes your waistline higher, thus improving your proportions.

For the petite, a length that just covers your hips works with some adjusting to your height.

Avoid oversized silhouettes, and the combination of a wide top with wide-bottomed pants, as those would visually divide your body in two, thus making it look shorter. Another way to achieve the effect of height is through raising the waistline and shifting the visual focus upwards.

2. Slightly Overweight

That‍‌‍‍‌ straight-cut style will really highlight your figure and still look laid-back and casual.

Also, an oversized suit that's loose but still fits you neatly is another good option - it will show off your shape and give a cool, effortless vibe. Although, if you're on the shorter side, you should think twice before trying this style, as it is mainly suitable for taller women.

Quite a few women who are a bit overweight usually have a wide shoulder line or a thicker upper back area, so dropped shoulders on a suit might not be the best option for you.

The best option would be a suit with lightly padded shoulders as they will give you shape and support, won't add extra volume to your figure and will create a chic ‍‌‍‍‌silhouette.

3. Pear-Shaped Figure

Pear-shaped‍‌‍‍‌ figures are those which have more weight around the hips and thighs; hence short suits that emphasize these parts should be avoided - more flattering are those jackets which are longer.

Besides, do not wear very slim-fitting suits as they might give you a tight appearance.

A neat, straight-cut or a little bit oversized suit can definitely make a stylish and harmonious ‍‌‍‍‌impression.

4. Apple-Shaped Figure

Apple-shaped figures typically have more weight in the upper body, especially around the waist and abdomen. Therefore, it is not a good idea to wear a short suit that will expose these parts of the body. A longer jacket can be of great help in hiding the waist and stomach.

In an attempt to not look bulky in the upper body, you should definitely avoid wearing suits with narrow necklines or heavy fabrics which have the effect of making you look larger and more tightly fitted.

Besides, you should not use styles that have dropped or rounded shoulders because they give your back a wider appearance.

Instead, choose simple, streamlined designs that highlight the suit's clean lines, creating an effortless and polished look while minimizing any minor flaws.

5. Funnel-Shaped Figure

The funnel-shaped figure is the one that has wide shoulders and hips, a narrow waist, and a softly tapered silhouette.

With such a body, the person has an inherent upper hand because the body shape looks very nice and feminine.

It is enough if a person wears a straight-cut suit along with a waist- accentuating or cropped inner layer to make the outfit look very chic.

H-shaped suits are a great option for almost any figure, so in case you don't know what kind of cut to go for, a straight-cut works perfectly and can be used in many different ways.

However, if you want to make a good impression and show your personal style using the right type of clothing, then the suits which are the most classic and the most flattering should be your choice.
