Implementing A Rotation System: The Secret To Letting Cashmere Fibers Breathe And Rebound

Today I want to reveal a small trick we call "rotation system." And no, this isn't about complicated chemical treatments, it's more like a philosophy of wearing cashmere that honors the natural qualities of this fiber.

Why let cashmere "rest"?

Let's explore if not visualize the smallest structures of cashmere fibers. Each is made of scales so tiny, that they look like layers of thin curly hairs. Like thousands of small coils intertwining and trapping warm air, these scales are naturally curled. When we wear them, the fibers can be stretched and twisted by our movements and can even be affected by moisture. If you happen to wear the same cashmere sweater for several days in a row, these "micro-springs" will be kept under tension without time to spring back.

When a rubber band has been stretched numerous times it becomes no longer elastic. Cashmere is subject to the same conditions. When worn consistently (i.e. once a week), the fibers in the cashmere become fatigued, which results in increased pilling, sagging, and dullness of color.

The core of the "rotation system": Give the fibers a break.

Our suggestion is simple: prepare two or three favorite cashmere items and rotate them. After wearing them for a day, let them "rest" on a hanger for at least 24-48 hours.

This seemingly insignificant "rest period" is precisely the crucial moment for cashmere fibers to work their "self-repair" magic:

Natural rebound: After being removed from body heat and moisture, cashmere fibers gradually shrink, and the elongated, twisted structures return to their original shapes, step by step. If you examine the cashmere after it has been hanging for two days, the creases have disappeared and the form is restored.

Moisture evaporates: Sweat from your body can produce about .5 L per day and often will get absorbed by cashmere before the garment has dried completely. If you allow for enough time to pass before switching out your cashmere, you are allowing all moisture to evaporate from the cashmere fibres so that they won't become hardened or matted and may assist to minimize potential odour.

Surface Scale Repositioning: Fiber scales that have become raised due to friction have a chance to slowly flatten during the rest period. This is why clothes worn in rotation show significantly less pilling-the tangled fibers have enough time to "go home."

From Supplier to Wearer: Our Practical Insights

As a supplier, we value not only how cashmere is woven but also how it is cherished and worn for a long time.

With "rotating wear" practice, you are actually doing a bit of low-cost maintenance. If you wear a cashmere sweater three days in a row, it probably needs washing; but if you rotate it, washing might only be necessary once a week or even less often. Every wash, even a very gentle one, is a strain on the fibers. By washing less often, you keep your garments in good condition for longer.

We suggest that you gently brush dust from the cashmere sweater after taking it off at night before hanging it somewhere that is shady and has good air circulation (with a hanger with wide shoulders) for the cashmere to "breathe." The next day, you can wear another cashmere sweater, and the first one will continue its "repair vacation."

True luxury lies in durability.

With fast fashion fueling the world today, we think that actual luxury is not ephemeral trends, but quality that endures over time. Cashmere is a natural gift, and it's best returned by way of "rotation of use."

By rotating our cashmere sweaters frequently, we can help keep them fresh and soft to wear; furthermore, this will extend the amount of time they will continue to look their best. Cashmere will hold its shape and shine five years from now; this is a testament to our high quality of life.

The next time you wear your beloved cashmere, remember to give it some rest, and it will reward you with even longer-lasting gentleness. This is the way cashmere breathes.
