Should Silk T-shirts Be Hung Or Folded?

Hanging has its advantages and disadvantages

Hanging is intuitive and convenient, and it allows you to see items at a glance. Choose a hanger that is wide, rounded, and has a smooth surface (such as flocked or silicone-coated) to effectively distribute the weight and avoid leaving obvious "horns" on the delicate shoulders. Hanging is the first choice for silk dresses and silk shirts that need to maintain their drape.

However, long-term hanging is not a cure-all. No matter how good the hanger is, it can easily cause the fabric-especially thinner types-to stretch and become difficult to restore after bearing weight day after day. The neckline and armholes may become subtly deformed over time. Behind the convenience of hanging, time slowly pulls on silk.

The cleverness of folding lies in the details

Folding is a good way to avoid the risks of hanging. But carelessly crumpling silk into a ball and stuffing it into a drawer will only make the fabric "cry in the dark."

Light and thin silk (such as gauze and georgette): Gently shake it open and lay it flat on a clean surface. Fold the sleeves inward, then fold the body from both sides toward the center line. Finally, roll it from the hem to the neckline to form a soft column. This method reduces wrinkles and pressure and makes it easy to use later.

Slightly thicker silk (such as double crepe or heavy mulberry silk): Use the "sushi roll" method. After laying it flat, fold one sleeve to the back, then do the same with the other. Fold the body lengthwise in half or thirds, and finally roll it up. Folding is not a compromise-it's a stable home for silk in a small space.

Make a choice based on the situation

Consider the thickness and structure: Heavier, structured silk shirts can be hung for short periods; thin, unstructured T-shirts should be folded.

Consider the frequency of use: For items worn often, hang them in a ventilated area with wide-shouldered hangers. For seasonal or occasional wear, fold and store them carefully.

Consider design details: Beads and special prints can be damaged by pressure, so they should be folded and placed on top of other garments.

Space is king: If space allows, hanging is preferred-just ensure proper hangers are used. If storing in drawers, folding is the only option, but the interior must be clean and level.

Protecting the radiance of silk

1

Good housekeeping: Launder silk after wearing, as sweat and dirt can slowly deteriorate the fibers. We recommend you hand wash gently or dry-clean it.

2

It cannot get wet:Silk should be stored in a dry place; moisture is a breeding ground for mold and pests. Bamboo charcoal bags can be put in drawers and closets to soak up moisture.

3

Shield from light and dust: UV rays are silk's mortal enemy, especially for dark colors. Dust when hanging or fold and store in drawers or boxes.

4

Do not compress: Whether hanging or folding, make sure there is enough room to breath and to avoid crushing by hard or heavy items.
