Silk-Mulberry Silk
Zhang Ailing once said: "When silk flows gently on a woman's body, it is a sigh, a caress, a pity, an amazing beauty, and an amazing harmony, because a woman is originally a piece of pure silk."
" With soft texture and bright colors, anyone who sees it will be attracted to it. Nothing can make a woman embody noble and elegant temperament better than silk.

Since ancient times, silk has been the inheritance and symbol of Chinese culture, and its delicacy and luxury are deeply loved by the world. Among them, silk and mulberry silk are often mentioned by people, and they occupy an important position in the textile market.
When we buy silk clothes, we often see that some clothes are marked as silk and some clothes are marked as mulberry silk. What is the difference between them? Which one is better? Most people don't know.
Today we will learn about the difference between mulberry silk and real silk~

Silk
Why is there the word silk? This can be traced back to the middle of the last century, when artificial silk was mass-produced and sold on a large scale on the market. In order to distinguish between artificial silk and natural silk (mulberry silk), people came up with the term "real silk". Before this incident, "silk" in the world specifically referred to mulberry silk.

Real silk is a broader concept. In the textile industry, real silk usually refers to textiles made from silk fibers spit out by silkworm moth larvae. These silkworm moth larvae are not limited to mulberry silkworms, but also include other types of silkworms, such as tussah silkworms and castor silkworms.
Therefore, mulberry silk is real silk, but real silk is not necessarily mulberry silk. Real silk covers other silk varieties besides mulberry silk.
Mulberry silk
Mulberry silk, as the name suggests, is the silk spit out by mulberry silkworms. To be precise, it refers to the slender and continuous natural fiber formed by the solidification of the silk liquid secreted by silkworms when they make cocoons. Unprocessed silk is also called "raw silk". Its texture is slightly hard and translucent, because some saliva of mulberry silkworms adheres to the surface, and the color is not transparent and pure. After the raw silk is degummed, it has the characteristics of luster and softness, and it is called "cooked silk".
My country is the earliest country in the world to originate the mulberry silk textile industry. As early as the primitive society, people learned to collect natural silk and make crude clothes to replace the grass leaves to cover the body. With the development of mechanization and the advancement of science and technology, the textile technology of mulberry silk is now very mature.
Silk can be divided into: mulberry silk, willow silk, camphor silk, tussah silk, etc. according to the different food used for silkworm breeding. Among them, the quality of mulberry silk is the best, and the breeding and reeling technology of mulberry silk are also the most mature.

Compared with other natural silks such as tussah silk, mulberry silk fabrics have thinner and longer fibers, and the fineness is generally only about one-tenth of the hair, while the fiber of tussah silk is basically the same thickness as the hair.
The length of mulberry silk can reach tens of meters or even hundreds of meters, while tussah silk is generally only tens of centimeters long, so mulberry silk feels softer and more delicate, has stronger skin-friendliness, better glossiness, and is more comfortable to wear. It is a common choice for people in the market.

The main difference between real silk and mulberry silk is that real silk is synthesized on the basis of mulberry silk. Mulberry silk is the raw material, and real silk is the processed fabric.
The difference can also be seen from their definitions. Mulberry silk is a natural animal protein fiber and the main raw material for silk weaving. It is smooth, soft, and shiny, and feels warm in winter and cool in summer. It has a unique "silk sound" phenomenon when rubbed, has good extensibility, good heat resistance, is not resistant to salt water erosion, and should not be treated with chlorine-containing bleach or detergent.
Common silk fabrics include double crepe, heavy crepe, georgette, double georgette, heavy georgette, mulberry satin, plain crepe satin, elastic plain crepe satin, warp knitting and other categories according to the process. Among them, elastic plain crepe satin is a new fabric. In addition to mulberry silk, it also contains 5% to 10% spandex. It is a woven fabric with good elasticity and relatively small shrinkage.
Which is better, mulberry silk or real silk? Silk clothing is soft and comfortable, while mulberry silk can be made into cosmetics or silk
protein. Therefore, mulberry silk and real silk have their own advantages, and their uses are also different: Advantages of mulberry silk:
1. Mulberry silk is not only the main raw material for silk weaving, but also can be used to make artificial blood vessels.
2. Mulberry silk is the best raw material for making silk quilts. Silk quilts made of mulberry silk are not only soft and close-fitting, warm and breathable, but also have a variety of health benefits for the human body due to their green and healthy characteristics.
3. Mulberry silk can also be developed into many high-tech by-products.
4. Since mulberry silk contains 18 kinds of amino acids that are extremely nutritious to the human body, people have developed a series of cosmetics with silk fibroin as the main raw material based on this characteristic of silk. 5. Mulberry silk can also be made into silk protein for people to eat.

Advantages of silk:
1. Silk fabrics have a high porosity, so they have good sound absorption and air absorption. Therefore, in addition to making clothes, they can also be used for interior decoration, such as silk carpets, tapestries, curtains, wall cloths, etc.
2. Using silk fiber as a raw material for interior decoration can not only absorb sound, absorb dust, and keep warm, but also have flame retardant function.
3. Tryptophan and tyrosine in silk protein can absorb ultraviolet rays, so silk has good anti-ultraviolet function.
Washing methods for mulberry silk and silk clothing Washing methods for mulberry silk clothing
1. Hand washing is best: put a small amount of neutral detergent or neutral shampoo in cold water, stir the detergent in the water by hand before putting the clothes in; the clothes should not be soaked in water for more than three minutes; gently rub and rinse by hand, and use two or three drops of vinegar for a second wash to keep the clothes bright and beautiful, do not wring them out, lay them flat and dry them in the shade. If you do not iron them, you can touch them flat with your hands when they are 70% dry.
2. Remember not to use detergents, laundry soaps, soaps and other detergents; do not mix with other clothes.

Washing method of silk clothing
1. Washing: Silk clothing is made of protein-based delicate health fiber. It is not suitable to rub it with rough objects or wash it with a washing machine. The clothing should be immersed in cold water for 5-10 minutes, and gently rub it with a special silk detergent, synthetic low-foaming washing powder or neutral soap (if it is washing small fabrics such as silk scarves, shampoo is also a good choice). The colored silk clothing can be repeatedly rinsed in clean water.
2. Drying: Silk clothing should not be exposed to the sun after washing, and it is not suitable to be dried with a dryer. Generally, it should be placed in a cool and ventilated place to dry. Because the ultraviolet rays in the sun can easily make silk fabrics yellow, fade, and age. Therefore, silk clothing should not be twisted to remove water after washing. It should be gently shaken, spread out with the reverse side facing outward, and ironed or shaken flat when it is 70% dry.
3. Ironing: The wrinkle resistance of silk clothing is slightly worse than that of chemical fibers, so there is a saying that "no wrinkles are not real silk". If clothes are wrinkled after washing, they need to be ironed to be crisp, elegant and beautiful. When ironing, dry the clothes until they are 70% dry and then spray them with clean water evenly. Wait for 3-5 minutes before ironing. The ironing temperature should be controlled below 150°C. The iron should not touch the silk surface directly to avoid the formation of aurora.
4. Preservation: Preserve silk clothing. For thin underwear, shirts, pants, skirts, pajamas, etc., they should be washed clean first and ironed dry before collection. For autumn and winter clothing, jackets, Hanfu, and cheongsam that are inconvenient to disassemble and wash, they should be washed clean with dry cleaning method and ironed until flat to prevent mildew and moth. After ironing, it can also play a role in sterilization and insecticide. At the same time, the boxes and cabinets for storing clothes should be kept clean and sealed as much as possible to prevent dust pollution.
Through the above introduction, I believe that everyone has a clear understanding of silk and mulberry silk.
Silk and mulberry silk are not exactly the same concept, but there is a relationship of inclusion and being included. Next time you buy silk clothes, be sure to check whether the label clearly states that it is 100% mulberry silk. Don't be deceived by other types of silk or chemical fibers. Only by choosing real mulberry silk clothes can you enjoy the comfort and beauty brought by silk.
